Young athletes push limits at Beaulieu cross-country event
Learners at Beaulieu Preparatory embraced fitness, teamwork and friendly competition during a spirited cross-country event.
Beaulieu Preparatory School continues to nurture a strong culture of fitness and teamwork among its learners through its engaging cross-country programme.
Jenny Fourie, teacher in charge of cross-country, said, “The morning running initiative was inspired by a desire to build a strong culture of fitness, perseverance, and encouragement among learners. It was especially rewarding to see runners cheering each other on to reach the finish line, regardless of their house affiliation.”

On April 7, the run formed part of the school’s inter-house cross-country competition, where learners represented Unicorn, Phaeton and Pegasus in a spirited yet friendly contest.
While points were at stake, the atmosphere remained inclusive and uplifting.
“Learners responded with enthusiasm and positivity, embracing the event as a friendly competition. The overwhelming spirit was one of camaraderie, mutual encouragement, and shared achievement.”
Fourie explained that beyond the race itself, the initiative aims to instil important life skills. Learners are encouraged to challenge their own limits and focus on personal growth rather than simply competing against others.
“The main goal was to foster healthy competition, resilience and teamwork. Learners competed against their own times, focusing on growth and improvement.”

The event also delivered memorable moments, particularly as learners supported one another across team lines and celebrated each other’s efforts.
“One of the standout moments was seeing learners motivate and cheer for each other. It was also inspiring to watch new runners discover their potential and perform beyond their expectations.”
Fourie said Beaulieu Preparatory School reinforces its commitment to health and wellness through regular fitness initiatives held throughout the year. Early morning training sessions help learners stay active and prepared for various sporting activities, with progress continuously monitored to encourage accountability and development.
“During the winter months, the school adds a special touch by offering hot chocolate after early, icy morning cross-country practices, giving learners something to look forward to and reinforcing a positive, enjoyable association with fitness.”
