“He explained to officers that he had been walking in the Marathon informal settlement, with his cousin, when they were approached by four men,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“The victim’s cousin was able to escape, but the four men grabbed the victim, threatened him with a firearm and allegedly began to assault him.

“The victim claims the men accused him of stealing a battery for their solar panel.”

The attackers allegedly ordered the victim to take off his clothes and shoes and dragged him to his shack.

“At the shack the suspects allegedly assaulted, stabbed and hit the victim with a brick, despite not finding the stolen battery at his home.

“The men made off with the victim’s cellphone and clothes,” said Maome.

Police were able to trace and arrest one of the accused and he was arrested.

“A manhunt has been launched to find the remaining three suspects,” said Maome.

The accused has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
