Man arrested, drugs seized by EMPD officers

Patrol nets EMPD officers drugs, stolen vehicle and a suspect.

Patrolling EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members arrested a suspect after he was allegedly caught red-handed selling drugs on Minnie Road, in Germiston, on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old male suspect was cornered and thoroughly searched, after an alleged customer who noticed the officers approaching escaped on foot, leaving the drugs and the alleged dealer behind.

Six pieces of the drug rock, seven ziplock bags of nyaope, three full Mandrax tablets and one half of a Mandrax tablet, valued at R650, were seized.

On the way to book the suspect, EMPD officers came across an abandoned Mazda 323, causing an obstruction on La Basse Road in Kutalo.

The five-door vehicle was checked and it was revealed that the motor vehicle had been stolen in February 2017, in the KwaThema area.

The arrested suspect was taken to the Germiston Police Station and charged with possession of and dealing in illicit substances.

He is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.

The recovered Mazda 323 was sent to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Pound in Benoni for further investigation and safekeeping.
