Taxis block several major highways
Taxi drivers will hand over a memorandum to the Minister of Transport.
Several roads and highways across Gauteng have been blocked by unhappy taxi industry members this morning (Wednesday) and commuters have been left stranded.
It has been reported by several news networks that the members are voicing their views about the bus rapid transport system, operating licences and public transport subsidies, among other issues.
The N3 in Germiston is one of the routes affected by the strike.
Motorists have been warned of queuing traffic on the N3 North between Barry Marais Road and the Heidelberg Road exit.

Other routes affected include the R21, N14, N1, M2 and the Mabopane Highway, as well as, several areas within Pretoria.

The taxi drivers are expected to march to the transport department where they will hand over a memorandum to Minister of Transport Joe Maswanganyi before heading to the Union Buildings, where a document will be submitted for the attention of President Jacob Zuma.
Due to the strike the hashtag #taxistrike is trending on Twitter.
