Meet the GCN’s team
The GCN has chosen the team who will represent them in the Caxton Reynolds Race.

They are adventurous, fun-loving and interested in history and, with their bubbly, enthusiastic personalities, they are the perfect team.
Louise (30) and Hennie (36) Bingle, from Hazeldene, are the lucky team chosen to represent the Germiston City News in the Caxton Reynolds Race.
They stand a chance to win a trip for four to Mauritius, proudly sponsored by SA Reynolds Travel Centre, and could be the weekly winners of R5 000 Hirsch’s vouchers to spend at any Hirsch’s store.
The GCN has also chosen the Germiston branch of the Red Cross Society to receive R10 000 in Hirsch’s vouchers, should the Germiston team finish in first place, in the final race, which will be held at the Boksburg Rugby Club, on September 21.
On Thursday, Louise and Hennie will meet with sponsors and other participating teams from all over the East Rand at a cocktail party, at Hirsch’s Boksburg.
On the evening they will also complete a quick challenge in order to receive their first clue/lead.
Hennie and Louise have been married for almost two years and share their home with their “children”, Labrador Boi and Great Dane Scout.
They love to travel and together they have visited Brazil and South East Asia.
Before their marriage both also travelled to various places.
Louise has lived in Germiston for most of her life and Hennie is a new resident (of almost two years), originally hailing from Centurion.
He does, however, have strong ties to Germiston, as he owns his own sheet metal business, in Wadeville.
Louise is a qualified quantity surveyor, but is currently working at a company doing general duties.
When they are not travelling and finding new places, Louise loves to read and Hennie enjoys cooking.
They entered the race as they both enjoy history and want to find out more about the East Rand.
“I grew up in Centurion, which is just a suburb,” Hennie said.
“When I moved here I found that the area has a lot of history and the race will be a fun opportunity to learn more about the area we live in.”
Louise added that it will be interesting to learn about both the “old” and the “new” history of various places on the East Rand.
Currently the team does not really have a specific race strategy in mind – they just know they have to be quick.
“We’ll play it stage by stage and see how we are going to do things,” Louise said.
“We are both totally committed to the race and are happy and proud to be representing Germiston.”
Hennie added that he believes that the other teams are going to be highly competitive and they are going to have to work hard.
“We are so excited about it and can’t wait to get started,” he said.
The competition is based on “The Amazing Race” and will require participating teams to complete various tasks across the East Rand, which will be related to the East Rand’s heritage.
Once they have completed their tasks they will submit proof of this to the GCN.
The team to submit their proof first gets the most points, the team to come in second will receive fewer points, and so forth.
Teams will do these tasks over weekends for seven consecutive weeks, and the three teams with the most points by the end will go through to the finals, on September 21.
Leads will be published online every Friday afternoon, where participating teams can download their instructions on what to do that weekend.
Results of each round/week will also be published online, so keep an eye out for your favourite team on looklocal and follow their journey as the competition progresses.
We will also host a reader’s competition which will kick off soon, so don’t waste any time in getting to know the East Rand, as there are wonderful prizes up for grabs for those who wish to get a piece of the action.
Details of the reader’s competition will be published online and in the paper.
