Car thieves nabbed at jazz concert

Germiston SAPS bust car thieves.

The Germiston SAPS and the EMPD arrested two men, aged 26 and 33, for attempted car theft, at the Chris Hani Tribute Concert, at Victoria Lake in Germiston, recently.

WO André de Jager, communications officer for the Germiston SAPS, told the GCN that while the police officers were patrolling Hurricane and Rand Airport Roads, they spotted the two men inside a white Toyota motor vehicle.

“The officers saw that the lights of the car were on, as were the windscreen wipers, and it appeared as though the two men were tampering with the vehicle,” added de Jager.

“The officers then stopped and confronted the men.

“They tried to run away, but they were caught and arrested.

“After further investigations it was discovered that the small window of the left back door of the vehicle had been broken into,” said de Jager.

“The officers also found suspected car hijacking tools on one of the men.”

The owner of the motor vehicle was called to the stage and informed by the police of the attempted car theft during the concert.

“On behalf of Germiston SAPS management, we’d like to congratulate Constables Samuel Khali and Virginia Nyamane for a job well done,” said de Jager.

The two men were detained at the Germiston Police Station and they are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
