Community helps police find robbers
Two nabbed for business robbery in Makause.
The Primrose SAPS and Germiston flying squad arrested two men for a business robbery at the Makause informal settlement, in Primrose, recently.
“This happened after three men entered a shop pretending to buy something,” said Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
“The shop assistant opened the door and when the men were inside, they pointed a firearm at the shop assistant and owner.
“The shop owner tried to hide but they found him, assaulted him, and demanded money.”
Maome said the men took R1 400 and stole airtime worth R1 000 and ran away.
“The community members chased the suspects and called the police,” added Maome.
“This is an indication that even the community is fed up with the crime in Primrose.
“When the suspects realised that the police were also chasing them, they tried to hide in the bushes near Delport informal settlement.”
Members of the Germiston flying squad managed to find the men and arrested two of them.
“The third suspect is still on the run and we would like to encourage anyone with information to assist the police in locating his whereabouts,” said Maome.
The police suspect one of the men in dreadlocks is linked to other crime incidents in the area.
Further investigations are still underway.
“The management of the Primrose police would like to thank all the role players who contributed in making the arrests,” said Maome.
The men will appear at the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
