Fake meter reader steals Samsung Galaxy S4

Be warned... A couple is allegedly robbed by a fake water meter reader.

A Germiston resident, who wishes to stay anonymous, informed the GCN that she and her husband were victims of theft after a fake Ekurhuleni water meter reader walked into their premises, in Driehoek, recently.

“He was dressed in Ekurhuleni uniform and he drove a blue Toyota Avanza which had the Ekurhuleni sticker and the inscription: water and electricity,” she explained.

“He came to the gate and said he was sent to come and record my reading.

“My husband told him that we have a prepaid meter but he insisted on having a look.

“Unfortunately, my husband let him inside the house.

“He asked for our Ekurhuleni bill and when my husband went to get it, he succeeded in stealing a Samsung Galaxy S4, which was on the table in the sitting room.

“He quickly viewed the bill, wrote two names on it and said we should report a leaking pipe to either of the names he gave us.

“He left hurriedly and we discovered that our phone had gone with him.”

The couple then drove to their local municipality office to complain and they were informed that no one was sent to them and that none of the metro staff use a blue car.

“This is an eye opener,” said the woman.

“I want to warn everyone else to be careful of whom they let inside their house.”
