Entrepreneurial bursaries available to the Katlehong community

Calling all Katlehong entrepreneurs to apply for a bursary.

Every Thursday and Friday, over the next two weeks of August, the Katlehong community will have the opportunity to embark on an entrepreneurial journey with FIELD.

Aspiring entrepreneurs can go to the Katlehong Family Skills Centre, at 555 Moseu Street, Tsolo Section, for mini presentations by FIELD, on how they can get help to start their entrepreneurial journey.

FIELD recently and successfully completed recruiting budding entrepreneurs to their Entrepreneurial Development Programme (EDP), in Soweto, and, as part of their mission to grow entrepreneurs in local communities, will now be headed to Katlehong.

Totalling R925 000 (50 bursaries) in value, the programme is designed for the applicants to gain a thorough understanding of entrepreneurship and personal leadership in a highly practical manner.

FIELD funds 95 per cent of the bursary, while the successful candidates handle the other five per cent (R925).

The high number of applicants who came forward in Soweto highlighted a great need for entrepreneurship.

“Standing up and choosing to be an entrepreneur should be applauded, but the fear of failure holds people back.

“We view failure differently,” said Mangaliso Buthelezi, FIELD’s general manager.

“The spirit to keep going despite all odds is what makes a true entrepreneur.”

The programme has been made possible by the Liberty Group.

Ivan Mzimela, Liberty executive for group strategic services, said: “Empowering young people with knowledge is of great importance to us here at Liberty.

“Knowledge and how it is used enables one to make a difference in their life and in the lives of others.

“It leads to innovation, which is an important trait for entrepreneurs to possess.

“We hope that the skills and expertise that these young entrepreneurs will take from this course will allow them to go out and start successful businesses.”

The programme runs over 16 weeks and successful candidates can expect to receive business skills, leadership training and practical application of what they learn.

The programme is open to adults, aged 18 and above, with matric.
