Girls take to the streets against crime

School pupils tackle the issue of crime.

Girls from four high schools, under the supervision of the Primrose SAPS, took to the streets on Wednesday, to say no to crime.

The Primrose-based high schools that participated in the anti-crime march were Dawnview High, Hoƫrskool Goudrif, Hoƫrskool Vryburger High and Primrose Technical High School.

After the march, the pupils participated in a debate competition.

Dawnview and Goudrif formed one team and Vryburger and Primrose Technical another.

The winning team was Vryburger/Primrose Technical, who earned a trophy.

The topic under discussion was “Are the police doing enough to prevent drug usage and sexual immorality cases?”

Catherine Wolfaard, from Primrose Technical High School, was named the best speaker of the day and won a trophy.

Ward 21 councillor Tania Campbell was the keynote speaker at the event and she encouraged the youth to have clear goals in life.

Guests included Kgomotso Moeng, a social worker, and Thomas Shoko, a representative from the Gauteng MEC of community safety’s office.

“The management of the Primrose SAPS thanks the pupils and the schools for participating in and supporting the event,” said Const Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“We hope the message will reach many ears and we also congratulate the winners on their great speeches.”
