The residents in Primrose are urged to be extra aware when shopping.
The warning comes after numerous reports that criminals are snatching purses and even holding the elderly up and taking their money at local shopping centres.
The elderly are especially at risk and should remain alert and shop in groups or pairs whenever possible.
Residents are reminded not to carry unneeded money or large amounts of money around with them as this presents a target.
“We are fast approaching the end of the year, which often means an increase in crime,” said Wendy Morgan, from the Primrose CPF.
“Be alert to your surroundings and try to avoid placing yourself in a high risk situation.”
Residents are asked to report any suspicious behaviour to either the Primrose Sector Two police vans on 071 675 6866/67 or the Primrose police on 011 842-0500/0522.
