Four linked to Germiston crimes

Alberton arrest has links to Germiston.

Police are investigating the links between a hijacking in Brackendowns, in Alberton, and a number of hijackings and robberies within the Germiston Cluster.

The investigation began when four suspects allegedly hijacked a Jetta 4 in Randhardt, in Alberton.

The Alberton SAPS received a call to be on the lookout for the Jetta 4 and a gold Audi A4 station wagon, believed to have been used as a getaway vehicle in the crimes.

The Jetta 4 was later recovered in Thokoza, where the Brackendowns SAPS managed to identify the getaway vehicle.

The SAPS followed the vehicle along the old Vereeniging Road, in Alrode.

The suspects, realising they were being followed, began to fire at the police, who returned fire.

Two of the four suspects were shot; one sustained serious injuries, while the other was in a stable condition.

Both were taken to Natalspruit Hospital and will be transferred to Tembisa Hospital at a later stage.

None of the SAPS officers were wounded in the shoot-out

It was during this investigation that Brackendowns SAPS discovered the getaway vehicle that was hijacked in July, this year, and recovered two firearms at the scene of the shooting.

Further investigation is needed to confirm whether the suspects are linked to a number of hijackings and robberies in the Germiston Cluster.
