Update: Bullets fly in Wadeville

Another suspect has died and the policeman killed in the shoot-out has been laid to rest.

National SAPS spokesman Lieut-Col Katlego Mogale has confirmed that another suspect in the Wadeville shoot-out has died.

“He died in hospital overnight, which now leaves five people dead in the incident,” Mogale said.

“No further arrests have been made and police continue to investigate.”

Mogale also told the GCN that the two EMPD officers shot in the incident are still in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

The GCN’s sister publication, the Lenasia Rising Sun, has confirmed that the police officer shot was a resident of Lenasia (https://bit.ly/1dNLv8k).

They supplied the GCN with information with regard to the police officer.

Shakeel Rasool (31), a warrant officer at the National SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit, was shot dead on the scene in Davidson Road, yesterday.

He is survived by his parents and two brothers.

Yesterday, family and friends gathered at Rasool’s home, in Lenasia, to await the arrival of his body, for the mayyit (funeral) to take place.

The mayyit of Shakeel Rasool left from his Extension Eight home at 10pm last night.

The unmarried Rasool was described as a wonderful person, who loved his job.

“He died doing something that he loved,” one family member said.

“Another life lost due to crime,” said another.
