Young boy knocked down by train
A 12-year-old child has been severely injured in a train accident.
A 12-year-old school boy was badly injured when he was knocked down by a train in Germiston, on Tuesday afternoon.
Just before 4pm, the ER24 Johannesburg East team responded to the railway station on Lake Road, in Germiston, where they found the young boy had suffered severe injuries as a result of being struck by the train.
“It is not clear what happened; all we know is that he was standing on the platform on his way home from school when the accident occurred,” said Vanessa Jackson, crisis communicator for ER24.
Due to the severity of his injuries, which included a possible head injury, neck and back injuries and a badly broken leg, paramedics started stabilising him on scene, while they called in the assistance of AER24, which then airlifted the patient to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, in Johannesburg, for further care.
The young man’s aunt was with him when the incident happened, but investigations are still underway as to what exactly took place.
