Members of the EMPD Peace Corps unit arrested five suspects on Tuesday, October 8, on charges of fraud and the illegal possession of stamps belonging to the Department of Home Affairs.
According to the officers, the stamps were reported as stolen during this year by the Department.
“The arrests were made after unit members Flowrence Jafhta, Katlego Mnale, Mampo Nkhuma, Kgomotso Moekana, Lerato Manqele and Mmaphuti Phao followed the suspects for two days,” said WO AndrĂ© de Jager, communication officer for the Germiston SAPS.
The five suspects — one man and four women, aged between 29 and 45 — were detained at the Germiston Police Station and were charged with fraud, as well as the illegal possession of stolen government property.
The five suspects will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court.
