Continued power woes for Tedstoneville

More power failures in Tedstoneville.

These days, Tedstoneville residents never know whether or not they are going to have electricity.

Carol Sternberg, a resident in Woodpecker Street, Tedstoneville Extension One, told the GCN that it appears that Extension One is mainly affected by the blackouts.

“It has come to the point where we are having power failures basically every second day,” she said.

She added that, last Sunday, they experienced a power failure for the entire day.

Another resident, Anita van Zyl, told the GCN that something needs to be done about the situation soon.

“We are continually having power failures in the area,” she said.

Sternberg said that every time she contacts the metro’s call taking centre she is given the same excuse: “There is a problem with the cable”.

The residents have been experiencing power failures for a number of months (GCN, October 11, Power woes for Tedstoneville) and they now want a solution to the problem.

The GCN again contacted the metro for comment on the power problems in Tedstoneville and was given the following response by Sam Modiba, spokesman for the metro: “We are working on keeping the power on in the area, hence, we attend to the problems as soon as possible.

“There have been different problems on each occasion and we have sorted them out each time.

“The call centre staff do not know what the problems are until we inform them of what each problem actually is.”

“It usually takes the metro between four and six hours to establish exactly what the problem is and then to fix it.”

The metro did not say whether the power problems in the suburb would be coming to an end in the near future or not.
