Members of Germiston SAPS, together with the Germiston community patrollers from the different suburbs in the Germiston policing area held a special operation on October 26.
Taverns and sports bars were searched.
A total of 13 taverns were searched and eight tavern owners were charged for contravening the Liquor Act with non-compliance of managers’ letters.
Fines totaling R12 000 were issued to the taverns.
“During the operation 836 people were searched and the police used their morpho touch screening system and scanned 141 people’s fingerprints.
“This led to the arrest of one wanted suspect.
“Another man was arrested for possession of dagga.
“The suspects, aged 22 and 35, respectively were detained at the Germiston Police Station,” said WO AndrĂ© de Jager, spokesman for the Germiston SAPS.
