Makro raises funds for local charity
Makro Germiston's beer festival supports charity.
Makro Germison recently hosted a beer festival to raise funds for local charity Cornucopia.
The event was well attended by community members, who spent a fun-filled day tasting the wide variety of beer on offer.
The festival showcased seven local breweries, including SAB, Distell, Brandhouse, Halewood and DGB.
Funds were raised through the purchase of beer cups, needed by visitors for the beer tasting, and the sale of raffle tickets.
People had a chance to visit various exhibitors’ stands, while enjoying music by Wayne Williams.
The raffle winners walked off with an array of fabulous prizes and hampers.
“Cornucopia has made a remarkable difference in our local community and we are proud to be in partnership with them for this project.
“We thank them and wish them every success in the future,” said Camille Moses, marketing admin manager of Makro Germiston.
Cornucopia was started in 1993, by a small group of people, whose goal was to uplift and assist the less fortunate.
In 20 years it has grown into a successful and self-sustaining organisation and is happy to be making a significant impact on the East Rand.
“Cornucopia is grateful to Makro Germiston for the opportunity to be a part of the festival,” said Leigh-ann Hutton, from the organisation.
“The store has shown itself to be a compassionate and loving organisation that is avid about making a difference in the community.
“Makro Germiston has supported Cornucopia for more than six years.
“Together we have brought joy to children and the elderly by arranging Christmas parties, donating food and toys to children’s homes and providing food to those who need it.”
The Cornucopia projects that will benefit from funds raised at the beer festival will supply stationery and school kits to underprivileged children in January, 2014.
