The Johannesburg SAPS Mounted Unit visited the children from Ithembelihle Lsen School, last Tuesday, to teach the children about horses and to show them a bit of what the mounted units do.
Currently there are about 57 horses across the East Rand, Pretoria, Johannesburg and Vaal Rand units and the officers mostly concentrate on crime prevention.
The children were delighted to watch the officers and their horses, as well as to interact with the horses themselves.

Little Kutlwano Mathithi (6), a pupil at Ithembelihle Lsen School, in Primrose East, was thrilled to sit on Boris, a horse belonging to the Johannesburg SAPS Mounted Unit, last Tuesday, when officers from the unit visited the children.

To conclude the fun-filled morning, more than 200 children from Ithembelihle Lsen School were each given a Christmas present sponsored by Chubby Chums for the Children’s Homes. WO Chantel van der Berg (back, left) and WO Gary Botha (back, right) assisted the teachers to hand out the presents.
