SPCA manager gets awards

Germiston SPCA manager Laurence Kingston receives two awards.

Laurence Kingston, the manager of the Germiston SPCA, has been rewarded for his dedication to the community.

He received two community service awards from The Chinese Association (TCA), at a gala function held at the Hellenic Hall, in Primrose, recently.

The event also celebrated the 110th birthday of the founding of the TCA in South Africa.

The inscriptions on the awards read: “In recognition of your outstanding contribution to the Chinese community.”

The first award was for the contribution Laurence made as former chairman of the Chinese Hong Ning Aged Home, situated in Belgravia, Johannesburg.

He served 12 years on the committee and then as chairman and part-time administration manager during the last two and a half years.

The second award was for Laurence’s personal contribution and commitment to the Chinese community for more than 10 years.

“I am very proud and humbled by these awards, as I never ever considered or thought of myself as anything special, or required to be recognised and acknowledged, as I have always committed myself to do social work for the community,” he said.

“I, without doubt, dedicate these awards to all community members, my family, relatives and friends and the loyal benefactors and supporters gathered along my journey, at various organisations with which I have had the greatest privilege to be associated.”
