Mandela a smell of fresh roses

A rose portrait of Madiba.

Germiston City Hall is one of the metro’s main mourning venues for Nelson Mandela where a striking portrait of Mandela, about two metres tall, greets you as you enter.

Taking a glance from a distance, the portrait looks like a carpet with Madiba’s face.

As you walk towards the picture, one discovers an astounding artistic work made with roses and the beautiful smell confirms it.

Madiba is arguably, one of the world’s leading figures whose persona has been prominently expressed through art over the years.

This augurs well for the world icon because he, among other things, fought for artists to freely express themselves through art.

The team that designed and built this amazing artistry includes the metro’s employees in the department of parks.

The City of Ekurhuleni believes that even though the roses may wither away, the memory and legacy of Madiba will remain until the end of time.
