“Enough is enough.
“Let us all work together in helping one another as road-users in ensuring that this festive season we don’t end up counting corpses and maimed bodies, but blessings and happy moments with friends and family,” said MMC for community safety Clr Mthuthuzeli Siboza.
This impassioned plea came during the launch of the Ekurhuleni festive season law enforcement campaign, held in Springs recently.
EMPD and Gauteng traffic officers conducted a roadblock on Tonk Meter Road between the N17 and Rietfontein Road where road safety awareness pamphlets were issued to both motorists and pedestrians.
It is common knowledge that, an avoidable, huge number of lives are lost on a daily basis on our roads and that its consequences are far-reaching both socially and economically.
In this light road safety becomes everybody’s responsibility.
“The community must make a concerted effort to assist authorities in the waging of this war against road carnage by observing the traffic laws and acting responsibly on our roads.
“Let us all as drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike be respectful of the rules of the road and be considerate to one another in order to avert tragic situations,” added Siboza.
