Firefighters battled a factory fire in Malvern East, recently.

Bedfordview Fire Station responded to a factory fire in Davies Road, Malvern East, last Tuesday.

Upon their arrival, the firefighters found that a chemical factory was well alight.

All back-up resources were activated, working in collaboration with Johannesburg Emergency Services, as the scene was on the border line of the two metros.

However, the factory concerned, is situated in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality`s jurisdiction.

The fire was reported in the afternoon and firefighters battled with the blaze till midnight.

No injuries or fatalities were reported on scene.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and investigations are underway.

“Firefighters had to deal with different types of acids within the structure, on the upper floor of the building,” said William Ntladi, media liaison officer for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Services.

“Hazmat technician teams went for an offensive attack, making sure that flames were knocked down without risking the health of personnel and other volatile, unburned products.

“Other ground crews were engaged in exposure protection around the burning structure.”
