Survival Kids is a group of people who plan events to raise funds to help children in need.
These events are aimed at underprivileged children, between the ages of five and 15 years, and funds are used to plan camping weekends, dance evenings, group trips to the zoo or aquarium, picnics and fashion parades, to name a few.
Survival Kids also uses a portion of the funds raised to help families in need.
These are families who are in need of food and/or clothing.
“The events and projects also create part-time jobs, as we need people on certain occasions, for example, child care, help in the kitchens, help with monitoring children on trips and selling food at food stands at events and projects,” said founder and head of Survival Kids Crista Duvenage.
When asked what children can expect on a Survival Kids outing, Duvenage said: “On camping trips we aim to teach our youth about the outdoors; how to put up tents, how to fish, how to build a fire for food, basic safety and also to focus on nature conservation.
“On group trips, such as going to the zoo, we aim to teach our youth about the different animals.
“We understand that parents do not always have the time to do all these things with their children and this is why we created this group, for children to be able to experience these types of outings and projects and to also keep them out of mischief and off the dangerous streets.”
Survival Kids is made up of a very dedicated group of people who work together to make these events and projects possible.
But, they need help, and ask the community to get involved and to help to make these events and projects possible.
The community has a chance to do just that with the Survival Kids Masquerade Ball, taking place at Ho‰rskool Vryburger, on February 21.
