Local business Jack’s Paint and Hardware has been struck by criminals twice within a week.
The store, located at the corner of George and Meyer streets, in the Germiston CBD, was broken into on Thursday, March 13, and again over the weekend, more than likely on March 16.
MC Ackermann , the floor manager at Jack’s Paint, told the GCN that tools and safety wear to the value of about R50 000 were stolen during the two break-ins.
“The Germiston police are investigating the matter and we have upped our security at the store,” said Ackermann.
“Other businesses in the area must be aware of what is happening and take extra precautions.”
It appears that the thieves gained access to the premises by breaking windows and, when employees arrived at work on both the mornings after, they discovered that the shop had been broken into.
“It seems the thieves just came in, helped themselves and left,” said Ackermann.
No arrests have been made as yet.
