A 25-year-old woman from the Makause informal settlement was recently arrested by the Primrose police, following an illegal abortion.
The arrest was made when officers were called to the Makause informal settlement by a resident who had discovered a black plastic bag containing a foetus in a local pit toilet.
Officers launched an investigation and soon discovered that this had been an illegal abortion.
The woman who had dumped her unwanted foetus after the abortion was pointed out to police by her boyfriend.
It was found that she had been attempting to flee to Limpopo.
The woman was arrested and transported to the Primrose Police Station.
“We strongly condemn the behaviour of the accused; there are many options for her,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.
“An illegal abortion and dumping of the foetus was unnecessary.”
