Members of the Primrose police recently arrested three men, aged between 18 and 50 years, on charges of illegal mining.
The arrest was made during an operation mounted by the Primrose police.
“One of our officers heard voices coming from a near-by field and went to investigate,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
“He found three men digging in the field.
“When he asked what they were doing or if they had permission to be in the field they could not answer.
“He informed the men that he was arresting them for illegal mining, as part of the operation.
“We are trying our utmost to discourage illegal mining in our area, as it is too dangerous.”
The three men appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where the matter was postponed for trial.
