Mini-bus and truck collide

Truck's brakes allegedly fail, collides with mini-bus.

The GCN travelled to the scene of a collision between a Toyota Quantum mini-bus and an eight-ton truck, on Edenvale Road, in the suburb of Meadowbrook on Thursday.

The accident occurred when the truck, which was travelling along the Edenvale Road off-ramp, was unable to stop at the red robot, due to alleged brake failure, and collided with the privately owned mini-bus.

The mini-bus, which was transporting staff members to a company in City Deep, is reported to have rolled and come to a stop on its side in the middle of the busy intersection.

The eight passengers and driver were rescued from the wreckage by Ekurhuleni Emergency Services.

Four were transported to the Life Roseacres Clinic and another four to the Edenvale General Hospital, to be treated for minor injuries.

One passenger refused to be taken to hospital for treatment.

“The truck has since been taken off the road due to its brakes failing; this is a clear indication that the truck is not roadworthy,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, the media liaison for the EMPD.

“A formal charge of reckless and negligent driving was not instituted against the driver of the truck, as none of the mini-bus passengers suffered serious injuries.

“The EMPD’s accident specialists will, however, investigate the accident further to ensure nothing was overlooked.”
