The Elsburg police were recently patrolling in Tedstoneville when they received an anonymous tip-off that there were people burning copper cables in Valk Street.
They rushed to the scene where they found a woman and a man in the house, as well as copper cables.
When the police questioned the pair, they were told that the woman’s husband owned the copper cables and he was not there.
The two could not, however, produce a receipt/invoice for the cables.
“The officers then contacted the Ekurhuleni Metro and metro employees came out to inspect the cables,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.
“It was confirmed that the cables were municipal property.”
The suspects, aged 34 and 43 respectively, were arrested and are facing charges of being in possession of suspected stolen property.
