Boost the Din-Al-View CPF’s numbers
More members needed urgently to help fight crime.
The Din-Al-View CPF covers the areas of Dinwiddie, Albemarle and Castleview.
Tony Purnell, a member of the CPF wants residents of those areas to be aware that the crime rate has increased by 100 per cent for the month of April (by looking at the previous month’s statistics).
He said that in the Din-Al-View sector there are 2 207 registered stands made up as follows:-
- Albemarle – 24 per cent
- Dinwiddie – 53 per cent
- Castleview – 10 per cent
- Union – 13 per cent
These figures exclude the number of units in estates, complexes and flats.
The Din-Al-View CPF has 111 registered members.
The Facebook group has 198 members (of which five per cent live outside the area and 30 per cent are from the registered members).
The BBM and Whatsapp groups have 220 members (where six per cent are on Facebook and 4 per cent are duplicated).
This means that out of 2 207 stands, only three per cent are registered members.
Then, of that three per cent, only 11 per cent are active patrollers.
“That means that each patroller must cover 276 stands and not all patrollers are patrolling at the same time.
Also, the patrollers are working people and do not have much time to conduct patrols as they also need to spend time with their families.
“Surely there is victory in numbers.
“Be the change you want to see in our community,” said Purnell.
The CPF is in desperate need of more members and patrollers.
“Housebreakings are increasing monthly and most of them are during the day.
“Theft of motor vehicles is also increasing.
“We really do need your help.
“We are not asking you to patrol every night for five hours, but if more patrollers come on board and patrol once or twice a week for two to three hours, it will greatly impact the difference we are trying to achieve,” Purnell said.
The Din-Al-View CPF meets on the last Wednesday of every month at Dinwiddie High School at 6.30pm.
