Police officers from the Germiston Crime Intelligence Unit received information, last Tuesday, about a truck that was being offloaded at a storage facility in the city.
Upon their arrival they found that 34 pallets of Salati sugar had been offloaded.
A Chinese national man was arrested as he was in the storage facility when the police officers arrived.
The suspect had all the documents relating to the delivery with him.
After further investigation it was discovered that the goods came from a company in Malelaan, Mpumalanga, and were supposed to be delivered to a company in Krugersdorp.
The driver had driven the truck away before the police officers arrived.
“The suspect, aged 36, was arrested and detained at the Germiston Police Station, and was due to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court on a charge of possession of suspected stolen goods.
“The driver is still at large, but he will be arrested soon,” said WO AndrĂ© de Jager, the spokesman for the Germiston SAPS.
