EMPD officer scoops award

Holding the name of women in law enforcement high.

MPO Gloria Mohlamunye Komane, a member of the EMPD Speed Unit, is holding the EMPD’s name up high.

She took home a coveted trophy, a certificate, a R2 000 cheque, a Spar voucher to the value of R1 250 and a beach bag, as part of her prize for winning the Performance and Excellence category at the seventh annual Leadership for Women in Law Enforcement conference.

The 2014 conference was held recently at Gold Reef City.

This annual event is held under the auspices of the Intelligence Transfer Centre (ITC), a company that is committed to promoting skills development and a training agenda throughout the continent, by providing responsive and sustainable training interventions aiming at bridging the skills shortages and gaps in the working class.

ITC gives recognition to the female stars of the law enforcement industry in four categories, namely, Community Service and Rural Support, Performance and Excellence, Mentoring and Leadership and Medal of Heroism.

Komane joined the EMPD in 2002 and immediately demonstrated admirable passion for her work and exhibited a good work ethic.

In 2013 she arrested 361 speedsters and this year her arrests already stand at 246.

In order to be a nominee in the Performance and Excellence category, a woman must distinguish herself through superior attention to duty and investigative effort that leads to the identification and arrest of a major criminal or criminal activity.
