The Primrose police recently arrested a 28-year-old Makause resident on charges of rape.
The incident was reported to the police by the victim’s mother.
The mother explained to police that she had put her children to bed and then left her shack to join her friends at a nearby fire.
A while later she noticed her children outside their shack and, upon closer inspection, she found her five-year-old daughter naked.
She immediately asked what had happened and the child told her that a man had forced himself on her.
The mother checked her daughter’s private parts and found that they were swollen and injured.
Police launched a formal investigation into the matter and were able to arrest the man responsible for the rape.
He appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for trail.
“We appeal to all parents to never leave their young children unattended; they are vulnerable not only to these types of crimes, but to other, unexpected events, like shack fires,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.
