Sharp Edge Training celebrates Mandela
Local company celebrates Mandela day in a different way.
Sharp Edge Training decided to celebrate Mandela Day in a different way this year.
The company did not just celebrate on July 18, but will, over the next few months, offer an upliftment course to students from Kathlehong, Wattville, Tembisa, Kwa-tema and other areas within Ekurhuleni.
The team met with their students on July 18.
The students started their first module in the New Venture Creation qualification last week.
There are a total of four modules in this qualification.
The module with which they started focuses on designing their business plans, as well as setting up their own business.
The programme is accredited with Service Seta and, as part of the course, students will build up a portfolio.
“Normally they would have been doing this in the workplace, but they are all unemployed and, therefore, have no place to obtain workplace experience.
“Submitting a complete POE is compulsory towards attending the next module, which is at the end of the month,” said Zotha Siyaya, from Sharp Edge Training.
The student were selected through a radio slot Sharp Edge had on Kasi FM, where the company’s marketer, Mandla Ngobeni, introduced the company and offered first 10 callers the opportunity to attend the training.
There are also learners from a local church.
“There were a number of employed people who wished to join the course, but they were turned away, to be sure there was space for those who are unemployed and may not get this opportunity anywhere else,” Siyaya added.
“Sharp Edge is committed to uplifting the community; we are accredited with various Setas against a wide range of qualifications.
“We operate from Wadeville, where we offer artisan training, which include welding and boiler making, as well as furniture making.
“We have a fully equipped training and computer centre.”
