Three arrested by Germiston Hawks in R800m trust fraud case

The Hawks’ Germiston Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit arrested three men in connection with an alleged fraud and forgery syndicate involving about R800m.

Three men were arrested in connection with an alleged fraud and forgery scheme that reportedly resulted in about R800m in financial losses.

S Antonio Iozzo (49), Daniel Werner Roets (43) and Abraham Johannes van Rensburg (56) appeared in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court after the Hawks’ Germiston Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit executed a J50 warrant of arrest.

According to a police statement, the three suspects are linked to an alleged fraud and forgery syndicate involving the victim’s trust.

The suspects allegedly forged the complainant’s signature at residential and workplace premises in Brackenhurst. The fraudulent documents were then allegedly submitted to the Master’s Office in Pretoria in an attempt to have the victim removed as a trustee.

Police said the alleged actions resulted in the victim losing about R800m in financial returns.

The three accused were each granted R50 000 bail.

The case has been postponed to October 5 for further investigation.
