Company’s windows destroyed during Numsa protests

Numsa members vandalise yet another company.

The Germiston City News recently received a call from a distressed resident.

The woman, who wishes to remain nameless, told the GCN that the company, Conve-tek (pty) Ltd, at which her sister is currently employed, had been targeted by Numsa members during their ongoing protest action.

The GCN was able to reach the company’s managing director, Bevan Davis, for comment.

“The protesters descended upon the company at about 10.30am,” he said.

“They targeted us even though we have a court interdict stating they are not allowed within a certain distance of the company.

“We had an estimated 94 windows destroyed by the rioting Numsa workers, who used bricks and stones to break through the windows into our offices.

“These bricks and stones could easily have injured people.”

The strikers returned for a second attack on the company, destroying more windows.

When asked if there was a police presence in the area, Davis commented: “The police did nothing in either incident, but I hardly expected them to be able to, as there were only two offices trying to manage a very large group of protesters.

“I have sympathy for the police, but they do not seem to have control over the situation.”

A case was opened with the Germiston SAPS following the attack.

The GCN has since contacted the Germiston SAPS to find out what more will be done in this situation.

At the time of going to press the GCN was yet to receive comment.
