Facelift on Mandela Day

The Ekurhuleni Development Company visited the Rose of Hope Day Care Centre on Mandela Day.

The children at the day care centre were delighted by the presence of the EDC employees as they, among other things, ran the centre for the day.

Most community members at the Good Hope informal settlement joined in the efforts of the EDC and helped them to paint and clean the centre.

“I am pleased that the community members willingly helped; this day has really been fruitful,” said the communications officer of EDC, Mosa Ramphisha.

Among others present was ward 93’s Clr Lindiwe Sibidli.

“This is a great initiative, I am excited about this day and its success, the level of support and commitment from everybody involved was brilliant,” said Sibidli.

She also commended the community for doing their part on the day.

“I was very happy when I saw the rubbish bags this morning; the community took it upon themselves to clean the place they live in and I see they are also here helping with the day care,”she added.

“I just wish such acts could carry on, let the legacy of Mandela Day not stop.”

The founder of Rose of Hope Day Care Centre, Shadrack Lushaba, received a call from the Ocean Basket in Fourways, telling him to come and fetch food parcels for the children and staff.

Sibidli then organised transport and headed for Fourways with Lushaba and some of the older children at the centre.

The EDC also put in new toilet doors, donated toys and clothes and prepared lunch for the children.

“We had fun with the children today; you can also see the excitement in their eyes as they look at the new designs on their newly painted classrooms,” Ramphisha said.

“Above all we gave and showed the children love, which I think is one of the main elements of this day and, like the councillor said: let the legacy live on.”
