Numsa members cause more damage

Car damaged by striking Numsa members.

The GCN was contacted by Stash Holland, who works at Melco Instrumentation, in Driehoek.

The business, located in Nancy Street, was set upon by strikers on July 16, at about 11.15am.

“We were working as per normal when we heard loud singing and chanting, and the next thing this big group of people (between 300 and 500) came around the corner and started throwing bricks at our office windows, banging on our shutter doors and shouting,” said Holland.

“Luckily we have burglar bars and the rocks bounced off the bars.

“My car wasn’t so lucky, however, one of the strikers threw a big rock right through my back window, shattering it.”

The damage came to R2 500 as Holland had to replace the window.

“This was purely the aim, to cause harm, traumatise the people and cause malicious damage to property,” Holland said.
