Calling all bikers to ride for animals
Rev up your engine in aid of the East Rand SPCAs.
All bikers, bike clubs, fanatics and families are invited to participate in the third annual Animal Run, on Sunday, August 31.
The ride ends at the Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club, next to the Boksburg City Stadium.
The event is in aid of all the SPCA branches on the East Rand and the hope is to collect as much pet food, pet blankets and donations as possible, to support this worthwhile cause.
“The event has grown in support over the last two years, as a result of the biking community’s compassion and willingness to make a difference in the lives of animals in need,” said organiser Chris Badenhorst.
“It has become an amazing event that simply must be attended if you are an animal lover.
“The mass ride for motorcycles to the end venue will start at 9am, at the Checkers Hyper Edenvale, where participants can congregate and enjoy some stunting by stunt motorcycle rider Nico Hesselman.
“From there the planned mass ride will be marshalled by the Road Rangers and the EMPD, to Cardinals Baseball Club in Boksburg.
“To see and hear a procession of more than 1 000 bikes rumble into the stadium is quite an experience.
“We’ve had an overwhelming response to our call to ride for the animals and are delighted that Jeremy Mansfield will be joining us.
All road-legal bikes are welcome, from the slowest scooter to the fastest speed bikes.
“Industrial strike action this year has added to the financial stress that many families were already under and this has had negative consequences for our furry friends.”
Badenhorst added that the need for the SPCA to intervene has never been greater as they struggle to cope with the sheer volume of abandoned and abused animals requiring help.
“The vision surrounding the hosting of the Animal Run is to create an annual event that will raise awareness for the SPCA and the plight of animals,”he said.
“All proceeds and donations will be put to very good use and we urge the East Rand community to show their support and lend a helping hand, while enjoying themselves.”
A nominal fee will get supporters into the grounds at the Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club, where they will be able to enjoy a beer tent, food stalls, a Kawasaki Ninja 250 raffle, lucky draw prizes and a dyno to test their bikes’ horsepower.
Foot-stomping music will be provided by Charly da Mota, DJ Louis and One for the Road Trucking.
New full colour SPCA Animal Run 2014 T-shirts, cloth and metal badges, branded buffs and coffee mugs will be available on the day.
Although this day is all about the animals, it’s not a day for the animals and the organiser’s ask that no animals be brought to the end venue.
