Cansa focuses on caregivers throughout the month of August.

The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) celebrated Caregivers Week from August 1 to 7.

Even though the official Caregivers Week has passed, Cansa has decided to focus on caregivers throughout the month of August.

“A caregiver is anyone who has ever taken care of someone; in our case we are focusing on a cancer patient,” said Relay for Life coordinator, Sharon Britz.

“Whether it is a parent, spouse, sibling, cousin, grandchild or friend, irrespective of age and qualifications, if you have ever had the opportunity to look after a cancer patient you are one of the awesome people we call caregivers.”

Cansa would like to honour the caregivers this month.

“To do this, we appeal to the community to please send a short story of their experience as a caregiver,” said Britz.

The short stories can be emailed to sbritz@cansa.org.za.

Towards the end of August, at a date still to be confirmed, Cansa will host a function where all the caregivers, whether they gave a story or not, can be honoured.

Any businesses or individuals who want to get involved shouldn’t hesitate to call Britz on 087 940 8356 or 083 460 6532.
