The Germiston police have arrested a train security officer after he allegedly shot and killed a commuter on Thursday, at Union Train Station, in Dinwiddie.
“The security officer’s firearm has been seized and will be sent to ballistics for examination,” said spokesman for the Germiston SAPS AndrĂ© de Jager.
“The suspect is due to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.”
It is alleged that Prasa security officers searched and escorted commuters who did not have valid tickets off the train.
The commuters were allegedly then forced to stand and instructed to wait at a certain spot of the station.
“In the process, they claimed that the guards assaulted them.
“One of the commuters allegedly fought back.
“A security guard drew his firearm and fired a shot; the 30-year-old victim was struck in the upper body and died on the scene,” said de Jager.
