It is not every day that a school can boast of such a meaty donation.
On Thursday, Primrose High School became the recipient of a 500kg donation of Shoprite Checkers 2014 Championship Boerewors.
The boerewors, which will be sold by the school to raise much-needed funds, was donated after Thlokes Nkomo, a Rustenburg resident and butchery manager at Shoprite Checkers Rustenburg, nominated the school after he took second place in this year’s Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition.
Nkomo’s daughter, Mamello Kanapi, is a Grade Eight pupil at the school.
Nkomo took part in the finals of the competition on October 4, at Sun City, after winning his rounds in Rustenburg and then in Brits.
He represented the North West Province in the finals and walked off with second place, which netted him the a R10 000 holiday voucher from All Gold; a R5 000 Coca-Cola cash prize and R1 500 worth of Simba vouchers.
He was also asked to nominate a school which would receive a 500kg donation of 2014 Championship Boerewors.
Although pupils and parents will not be tucking into Nkomo’s boerewors, they will not be disappointed, as they will be eating the winner of this year’s competition Koos van Dyk’s special boerewors.
Nkomo said that making boerewors was one of his favourite things to do even though there is a lot of work involved when you make it from scratch and he was pleased to be able to make the donation to the school.
Kanapi said: “I am very proud of my father, he did very well.”
Deputy principal of Primrose High School Elkan Butler said: “The school is very pleased with the donation and we will use it to help raise funds for the school.
“The boerewors will be sold to the school community at a reasonable price.”
