Local home gets fantastic donation

There were smiles all round at the Avril Elizabeth Home, on Wednesday, when they were visited by staff from Tiger Brands.

Not only was the home handed a cheque for a whopping R605 909 from Elizabeth Anne’s and Purity, but the residents were treated to a party, where they got to meet Barney and Friends.

Every year, Elizabeth Anne’s and Purity run a promotion where, for a period of time, a portion of their sales are donated to the Avril Elizabeth Home.

This year, marked the 22nd year of the partnership and, over the 22 years, over R7-million has been raised and donated from the initiative.

Managing executive at Tiger Brands Maurits Rood said he started the initiative all those years ago with love in his heart.

“We must be thankful for what we have and I thank the staff at the home for the wonderful work they do,” he said.

Sylvia Haywood, executive member and former CEO of the Avril Elizabeth Home, said she was thrilled with the latest donation and added that it is not only a cheque the home receives from Tiger Brands.

“We have a relationship and have become friends,” she said.

“They trust us to use the money for projects that will benefit our residents.”

Over the years, the funds have been put towards uplifting the lifestyle of the residents of the home.

Haywood said that this year the funds will be put towards upgrading the nursery section, where their younger residents stay.

Money will also be put into setting up and starting music therapy at the home, as the residents love music.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart and we appreciate everything you do,” said Haywood.

Once the formalities were over guests were treated to songs performances by the residents, as well as the Avril Elizabeth staff choir.

It was then time for lunch and then the party, for which all the residents had been waiting in great anticipation.

Each staff member at the home was also given a special hamper from Tiger Brands, to say thank you to them for all their hard work.
