Glorious Gardens of Germiston a huge success
Community flock to the beautiful gardens of Germiston.
Saturday, November 8, saw Germiston bathed in sunshine, and the Germiston Rotary Anns couldn’t have been happier.
This was because the Rotary Anns had hand-picked six beautiful gardens and invited the community to come see just how glorious these really are.
The community’s response to the event was wonderful and the Anns thank everyone who supported them.
“We are sure you would all agree that each one of the gardens, each different from the other, were a pleasure to walk through and admire and the weather was just perfect,” said Rotary Ann Margaret Atkins.
“The support from the community has been great, and we happy to have raised funds to support our Rotary charities and community service.
“Our biggest thank you must go to our wonderful gardeners, who opened their gardens for us all to see.
“The gardens were a source of inspiration, education and admiration.”
Over the weekend the Rotary Anns hosted three raffles.
The winners of these raffles are as follows:
- The big wheelbarrow raffle:
First prize went to Ray Bradley.
Bradley won a wheelbarrow full of gardening goodies.
Second prize, of a 25kg bag of organic fertilizer (Arthur Mennigke) went to Anton Pretorius.
Tyrone de Saedeleer won the raffle’s third prize of a R250 voucher for Mike’s Kitchen.
- The planted wheelbarrow:
First prize went to Doreen Kilburn and second prize to Kennedy McKinnon.
Prizes for this raffle were sponsored by Simply Majestic.
- The final raffle saw Jackie Romano win a beautiful Christmas cake, baked by Hester Coward.
Rotary Anns thank the generous sponsors and those who have made donations.
“A big thank you to Mike’s Kitchen Lambton, Simply Majestic, Arthur Mennigke, Merv’s Hardware, Benray Tool Wholesalers, Trans Tool Wholesalers, David Abel, Hester Coward and J.C. Services.
“We would not have been able to have organised this event without the support of the Germiston Garden Club.
“Their help and advice has been immeasurable, for which we say a very big thank you,” added Atkins.
