Municipal offices to close for the holidays

The metro will be closing many of its offices over Christmas, but essential services will still be operational.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s offices will be closed between Christmas and New Year.

All administrative offices, libraries, selected rates halls and pay-points will be closed from 1pm on Wednesday, December 24, 2014, and will re-open on Monday, January 5, 2015.

Emergency and essential services, such as refuse collection, electricity and water services, will not be affected by the holidays.

“The Christmas holiday is the best opportunity to afford our employees time to spend with their families, especially those who wish to travel to their respective home towns during this season,” said the metro’s spokesman Themba Gadebe.

“Residents are also reminded to pay their municipal accounts on time and to utilise facilities such as the www.e-siyakhokha.co.za online platform.”

Residents are advised to call the following numbers in cases of emergencies:

  • Life-threatening emergency line: 011 458 0911/10177 or 112 from a cellphone
  • Municipal Services Call Centre: 0860 543 000

“The municipality wishes all its residents a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” added Gadebe.
