The IEB matric results were released at midnight, last Wednesday.
Many private school students waited in anticipation to find out if they had passed the year and, students of Germiston’s St Catherine’s School and Assumption Convent, were no exception.
St Catherine’s School achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, with 32 distinctions in total and 75 per cent of the school’s students attaining a degree pass.
Of the 36 pupils, 28 achieved a degree pass and the remaining eight students received a diploma pass.
“This means that every St Catherine’s student has qualified to apply to study at a tertiary institution,” explained Joanne Crosby, principal of St Catherine’s School.
“We are very pleased with the results.”
Assumption Convent achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, with 90 distinctions in total and 98 per cent of the school’s students passing with a degree pass.
“Our school achieved 90 distinctions,” said Neville Workman, principal of Assumption Convent.
“This amounts to an average of two distinctions per pupil.
“I am very pleased with the results.”
The top three achieves of St Catherine’s School were: Mpumelelo Nhlapo (with seven distinctions), Neo Phahla (with four distinctions) and Ryan James (with two distinctions).
The top three achieves of Assumption Convent were: Claudia Bakker, Jennifer Luke and Ntaoleng Mokotini, each with six distinctions.
Guguletho Mahlobo was pleased to discover she had earned four distinctions in her IEB examinations. The Assumptions Convent student achieved her distinctions in Zulu, business studies, computer application technology (CAT) and life orientation. She plans to study Law in 2015.
Ryan James achieved an overall average of 76 per cent with distinctions in mathematical literacy and life orientation, making his St Catherine’s School’s third top achiever.
Claudia Bakker, of Assumption Covent, achieved a distinction in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, biology, geography and life orientation. Bakker plans to study a BSC in Agriculture through TUKS in 2015. She hopes this will allow her to get in veterinary school.
Assumption Convent student Ntaoleng Mokotini achieved six distinctions in her recent IEB examinations. She got distinctions for English, Afrikaans, mathematics, accounting, computer application technology (CAT) and life orientation. Mokotini is not sure what career she will pursue in 2015.
Assumption Convent’s Natasha Biccard achieved an impressive four distinctions in her recent IEB examinations. She got distinctions for English, Afrikaans, life sciences and life orientation. Biccard will be taking 2015 off before deciding what she wants to do next.
Neo Phahla was St Catherine’s School second top achiever with four distinctions. Phahla achieved an overall average of 81.1 percent and distinctions in English, mathematics, computer application technology (CAT) and life orientation. He was among the top one per cent of CAT learners through the IEB schools.
Jennifer Luke, a student at Assumption Convent in Germiston, achieved an impressive six distinctions in her recent IEB matric examinations. Luke got a distinction in English, geography, history, life sciences, mathematical literacy and life orientation. Luke plans to study Law in 2015.
Mpumelelo Nhlapo of St Catherine’s School achieved a distinction in each of her subjects, which included English, Afrikaans, mathematics, physical science, accounting, geography and life orientation in the IEB matric exams.
