Technical fault at a Koeberg Power Station has Eskom concerned

A technical fault at a Koeberg unit has stripped 1,000 megawatts from the national grid.

A unit at the Koeberg Power Station has been taken offline due to a technical fault this morning (Monday).

This has resulted in almost 1,000 megawatts being stripped from the national power grid.

Despite this fault Eskom says the system is stable for now, but reminds communities that this latest technical fault will further strain the country’s already fragile power network.

Eskom’s Khulu Phasiwe said this morning that the company will continue to give regular updates on the situation at the station.

“Our aspiration is not to have load shedding at all this week.

“But we must understand that we are running a very vulnerable power network which is prone to have technical faults.”

Eskom has once again appealed to consumers to reduce electricity consumption this week in an effort to assist the delicate power grid and avoid load shedding.
