Stage two load shedding to be implemented till 11pm
Eskom has been forced to implement stage 2 load shedding earlier than anticipated.
Communities were in for a nasty surprise this morning when Eskom implemented stage two load shedding from 8 am.
It is reported that this is due to the lost generation capacity at at least five of the company’s plants across the country.
The power utility says it had multiple trips at several power stations this morning.
In addition to the equipment that went offline on Wednesday another set of generators has been affected.
The latest bout of load shedding is expected to last until 11 pm today (Thursday).
Eskom spokesman Khulu Phasiwe said, “Several power stations experienced technical faults in the early hours of the morning.
“Earlier this morning we had multiple trips from many of our generating units and as a result we have been forced to implement stage two load shedding, which will start now at 8 am until 11 pm in the evening.”
“The risk of load shedding is high for the rest of this week.
“We’re going to use the weekend to rebuild our water and diesel reserves for the beginning of a new week.
“The system is very vulnerable this week,” explained Phasiwe.
Consumers have been urged to continue to use energy sparingly by switch off non-essential appliances.
