SPCA is in dire straits
Germiston SPCA in desperate need of funds to keep the doors open.
The animals in the Germiston SPCA’s care and those in need in the city are looking at a bleak future if the society does not raise enough funds to care for them.
The society is currently running at a huge loss every month, despite its best efforts to cut costs and streamline its activities.
“Despite this, we continue to serve all animals in our community, reaching out to the indigent and investigating cruelty complaints timeously,” said Michelle Falgate, chairman of the Germiston SPCA.
“Our savings account is drying up fast and we desperately need to find ways to raise the funds required to allow us to continue serving our community.”
One way the SPCA can raise funds is through its second-hand shop.
However, at the moment the shop can open only intermittently, as there are only a few volunteers to run it.
“Ideally we would like to open the shop every day, from 9am to 1pm,” Falgate said.
To do this, more volunteers are needed to work in the shop.
If you are able to offer your time one morning a week, then contact Sheila Menney on 072 203 1086, or email to sheilamenney@mweb.co.za.
“We are also in the process of renovating our garage into a book shop, which we hope will raise some of funding so desperately needed,” Falgate said.
“If you are able to donate wood for shelving, brackets to hold the shelves, undercoat, paint, sandpaper, paint brushes, or your time to help us complete this task, we would be truly grateful.”
