Fifty-two children are safer on the roads these Easter holidays

Donations keep children safer in cars.

In preparation for the upcoming Easter weekend, Cartrack and Wheel Well handed out 52 car seats to visitors to the East Rand Mall, in Boksburg, over the past weekend, as part of their “Car Seats for Kids” campaign.

The sole purpose of the programme is to collect car seats from donors.

These are cleaned, checked for defects, refurbished and made available to needy families who are encouraged to perpetuate the cycle once their children have outgrown the seats.

The programme was founded by Peggie Mars and is supported by Cartrack, a leading vehicle tracking and stolen vehicle recovery provider.

“The programme forms part of our ‘Is it worth it?’ campaign, where we ask whether it is worth it to take a chance with the life of your child when that child is not strapped into a car seat?” said Jacqui Marsh, marketing and communications manager of Cartrack.

“Many families are, however, not in a position to afford a car seat.

“With this in mind, Cartrack stepped on board in 2013, to aid Peggie and her team in their efforts to create awareness and to provide a means to ensure the safety of our children on the roads.

“The ‘Car Seats for Kids’ programme is making major inroads in our attempt to raise awareness.

“We are exceedingly proud of everyone’s efforts thus far and are more determined than ever to continue making a difference on our roads.”

According to Peggie, the generous donation of car seats goes far beyond the act of handing over a car seat to a needy recipient.

“It is about planting a positive seed of thought in the minds of parents and caretakers about the vulnerability of their children in and around vehicles,” she explained.

“We ultimately want to teach the children what it means to be safe on our roads, which will pave the way for our message to be carried into the future.

“We at Wheel Well are deeply grateful to Cartrack for making this possible.

“These kind and generous gestures make the ‘Car Seats for Kids’ campaign effective and very special.”
